Your preferred sleeping position is one of the most useful starting points when choosing a CPAP pillow. Back, side and combination sleepers place different demands on the neck, mask and hose, so a generic pillow may not be the most comfortable option.

Back sleepers
Back sleepers often need moderate loft that supports the natural curve of the neck without pushing the chin toward the chest. A central cradle or gentle contour can help keep the mask stable.
Side sleepers
Side sleepers usually need more shoulder clearance and may benefit from mask cut-outs. The pillow should be firm enough to maintain height while allowing the head to remain level.
Combination sleepers
An adjustable fill can make it easier to fine-tune support when you change positions. Practise the setup with the hose routed above or beside the bed so it does not tug during movement.

Comfort is useful only when therapy remains effective. Review persistent leaks, pressure marks or morning symptoms with your sleep clinician, and never change prescribed settings without professional guidance.
